Have your say on future of qualifications and training

THE IMI wants your help in determining the future shape of training and qualifications in the industry.

The organisation’s Automotive Skills division is conducting a nationwide consultation as part of government plans to overhaul the UK’s system of qualifications.

It is holding a series of 27 meetings between now and mid-December with specially invited guests from all areas of the industry, including independent garage owners.

It wants to know what you think of every aspect of training in the industry, from apprenticeships to master technician qualifications and diagnostic through to management training.

“We’ve compiled a lot of data and information on the industry and now we have to go to employers and ask them what they want from qualifications,” said interim Sector Qualifications Strategy manager Stirling Wood.

IMI spokesman Stuart Barnes said the consultation was a unique opportunity for garages and anyone in the industry to have their voice heard.

“We’re not leading people down a particular path. People are free to say exactly what they think and their views will help determine the qualifications being used in the sector over the coming years,” he said.

If you want to have your say, you can fill in simple questionnaire, which should take only a couple of minutes. To complete the Automotive Skills questionnaire, simply >click here.
