A director of the RMI has added his comments on the findings of a 'mystery shop' exercise by a consumer magazine.
“It’s imperative that MOT testing remains at 3-1-1 to ensure road user safety is not jeopardised” Stuart James, RMI director commenting on recent findings by What Car?’s MOT mystery shoppers.
What Car?’s mystery shoppers have uncovered shocking inconsistencies between testing centres around the country, with a number missing potentially dangerous faults.
Mr James continued: “The What Car? mystery shoppers have shown that there are faults with the current MOT system. With the impending MOT review we hope to see a tightening of its current rules to ensure that all drivers can trust the results of their MOT. With routine car maintenance dwindling, the MOT is more than often the only time a motorist’s car is checked. This is why, along with a review of the standards, that 3-1-1 should be kept in place.
“The RMI provide a fully rounded MOT support service that sees all its members audited to ensure they are meeting the strict standards set by VOSA. We would like to learn the names of the garages visited by What Car? to address the issues and problems that have arisen from the mystery shops.”
