£2.9 million makeover

One of the cheapest production cars in the world has been given a £2.9 million makeover

The adorned Tata Nano was unveiled in the city of Mumbai covered in 80kgs of 22 carat gold, 15kgs of silver and various gemstones and has been built to pay homage to the country’s 5,000-year history of jewellery-making. The car’s standard value has rocketed from £1,300 to an estimated £3 million.

Bhaskar Bhatt, chairman of the Tata group, said: "As of now it's not meant for sale. It's only meant to travel around to showcase the Indian karigars' (craftsmen's) expertise, and perhaps they are the most exploited in this business."
