Company founder hits milestone birthday... but won't be able to enjoy it

Today marks the 150th birthday of Robert Bosch.  Bosch was born in Albeck, near Ulm, Germany in 1861.

Not being interested in the family farming business, Bosch moved to Stuttgart where he founded his company of ‘precision engineers’ in 1886 – two years before Gottelieb Daimler invented the car.

Throughout his life Bosch was a pacifist. He sought to reconcile the relationship between France and Germany following WW1. He was also one of the first German industrialists to support the idea of an eight-hour working day as well as dividing an amount of the corporation’s profits to charity.

Sadly, Robert Bosch won’t be blowing out 150 candles today as he died in 1942. The company he founded 125 years ago continues to this day of course.
