Workers at Honda’s Swindon plant have been put on a three-day week due to a lack of supply of parts.
Recent flooding in Thailand has disrupted the supply of components for a number of Asian VMs. However, Honda has been particularly badly affected as the floods have knocked out a plant making electronic components as well as a CKD assembly line producing complete cars.
Swindon is currently being retooled to produce a new model of Civic and it is believed that some of the components that are not being shipped are for the new car.
Unite union spokesman at Honda, Jim D'Avila, told a BBC reporter that mangers in Thailand have got a "virtually impossible job".
"It coincides with the launch of a new Civic, so this couldn't have come at a worse time," he said.
