Jaguar Land-Rover to create 1,000 jobs

Solihull-based Jaguar Land-Rover (JLR) has announced that it is to expand production facilities in the West Midlands, creating around 1,000 new jobs in the process.

The posts are being created as the firm plans to bring approximately  40 new product lines into production over the coming year.

While car sales generally – and 4x4 sales in particular – have been weak, JLR has seen strong growth in new markets, notably India.

Commenting on the expansion, Des Thurlby, HR Director at JLR said: "This is great news for Solihull. We shall be increasing the plant workforce by more than 25%. These jobs are well paid with great benefits. We provide high quality training and development for all our employees and we expect to receive many thousands of applications." A recruitment campaign has been launched.

Since 2008 Jaguar and Land-Rover have been owned by the Indian industrialist Rattan Tata.
