NO START date has been set for the MOT review, despite having been announced some eighteen months previously.
A routine call to the Department for Transport proved that no start date has yet been confirmed, nor the completion date or the scope of the review.
Commenting on the delay, IAAF chief Brian Spratt said: “A lot of our members are looking to invest in new equipment, both to upgrade existing MOT lanes and to install new ones. However, the delay of the review means that they are not able to – meaning the economic truth of ducking this issue is at the detriment of garages and suppliers of workshop equipment.”
The review was announced in 2010 by roads minister Mike Penning, who at the time stated that the review would ‘begin shortly’. The minister has repeatedly expressed a desire to adjust the frequency of the MOT, much to the alarm of the motor trade and road safety groups.
