Average pothole damage bill £335

Steering and suspension component market increasing as roads

Published:  23 May, 2011

Britain's worst roads have been named and shamed on a website set up by an insurance company

According to insurer Warranty Direct, the average repair bill for mangled steering and suspension components is £335.

This means that if every driver in the UK were to fork out for steering and suspension components, the market would be worth nearly £3million every day - or £1 billion a year.

Duncan McClure Fisher, managing director of Warranty Direct, commented: "We handle thousands of axle and suspension claims every year involving damage clearly sustained a result of the long-term deterioration of our roads. We welcomed the additional money in the Budget, but it needs to be a springboard in establishing a five or 10-year plan to revitalise our Third World local road network."
