EGR test

Exhaust gas recirculation tool

Published:  20 November, 2012

A new service and test tool for exhaust gas recirculation, EGR, valves from Sykes-Pickavant can be used when testing and cleaning EGR valves and when used in routine servicing will prevent unnecessary replacement.

The tool plugs into the mains and removes built-up carbon deposits in situ during the 90 second fully open to fully closed rolling sequence. The kit's supplied with three connectors for different makes of valves. There are two test cycles - a quick test will resume after a short press of the button, pushing the valve to the limit of its travel in one direction, holding it there for inspection and service. The second cycle is a 90 second text, actuated by a longer button press, cycling the valve from one end to the other continuously. A sound indicates the end of each test cycle and an LED lights up if a faulty or unserviceable valve is connected.
