Denso boss predicts sensor surge

Published:  18 June, 2010

STRICTER emissions controls will mean a rapidly-expanding market for lambda sensors, with added opportunities for garages and factors, says Denso aftermarket sales boss Paul Payne.

Paul continued: "Lambda sensors help to control vehicle emissions and optimise vehicle performance by monitoring how much unburned oxygen is in the exhaust, and sending a signal to the ECM which adjusts the air/fuel mixture. The stricter emissions limits required by Euro 5 and 6 mean that extra sensors are increasingly being fitted as original equipment. By Euro 6 the forecast is that most petrol cars will feature two or more lambdas - a total European market volume of around 350 million. This represents a growing, add-on replacement market and profit opportunity for factors and garages. We've therefore worked hard to expand our Lambda sensors programme with even more major applications."
