Top Technician 2018 - Finalists named

Top Technician 2018’s finalists have been named following the Top Technician 2018 semi final,  held at the RMI Academy of Skills in Southam yesterday (Thursday 10 May).

10 semi finalists undertook a series of live diagnostic challenges overseen by the Top Technician panel of judges. From this group, the five finalists were identified.

The finalists for Top Technician 2018 are:

Shaun Miller -  Miller’s Garage, Berkshire

David Weston -  Snows Kia Guildford, Surrey

Matthew Pestridge - D&D Autos, Kent

Nigel Yardley -   Yardley’s Garage, Nottinghamshire

Neil Currie -  Robertson Gemini, Dumfries & Galloway

They will be competing for the title at the Top Technician final, being held at Auto iQ in Northamptonshire on Saturday 23 June. The winner will then be announced later that evening at the Top Technician/Top Garage Gala Dinner 2018, being held at the Brampton Heath Golf Centre.

The Gala Dinner consists of a sit-down two-course meal, with music until midnight. The ticket price will include welcoming drinks at the table.

Cost of ticket £49.99 + VAT (£59.99 including VAT). Tables of 10 are available at a special rate.

Winning Top Technician put him on the national stage, and also made him a local celebrity: "It had a very positive effect, " says Andy, "even to the extent of going into the local paper shop and the woman behind the counter saying 'I've just been reading about you.' She didn't know I was a mechanic - she didn't know anything about me, but she saw the picture and recognised me. It's free publicity. I wouldn't be the best at selling myself, but it made people aware without me having to jump up and down and shout about it."
