Garages suffer in extreme weather

UK government announces package for affected businesses

Published:  18 February, 2014

A garage in Kent has become a victim of the UK storms, after a wall from a neighbouring house collapsed.

Kent Automotive in Maidstone will be closed for the foreseeable future after the gable wall from the house next door collapsed, falling through the roof of the garage business. Owner Aran Emson had left the building at 6pm on Friday February 14th, just four hours before the collapse.

It is not known when the business will reopen, but Mr Emson believes around £50,000 of specialist tools and equipment has been damaged in the incident.

The news comes as the UK government announced a £10 million package for business affected by the flooding across the country. Banks are expected to consider waiving fees for businesses affected, while the HMRC has said that businesses affected will be given special treatment.
