Halfords lorry does not fit

Store slogan comes back to haunt it

Published:  08 October, 2014

A Halfords delivery lorry has gone against two of the company's slogans by becoming wedged beneath a low bridge.

Images from the site taken by the London Fire Brigade (LFB) showed the irony, as the lorry blazoned with 'We Fit' on the rear doors clearly didn't. The LFB twitter account then pointed out that with 'We go the extra mile' also featuring on the lorry, perhaps it should have and avoided the bridge in the first place. The service also reported events on Twitter using #wedontfit.

The incident happened at a bridge in Beckenham on Monday afternoon, requiring the suspension of mainline rail services over the bridge. Several parked cars were also trapped by the lorry which took five hours to clear.

A spokesperson for Halfords commented: "We would like to apologise for any delays and inconvenience caused to road and train travellers and will be working with the authorities to carry out a full investigation."

The driver was unharmed in the incident.
