SMMT boss urges industry not to cut research and development spending during credit crunch

THE INDUSTRY must create "rings of steel" around budgets for research and development during the economic downturn - that was the message from Graham Smith, the president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) this week.
