Challenging OE parts
Remanufactured range from Remy Automotive
Published: 28 October, 2014
According to Remy Automotive, its remanufactured range of parts is equal, if not superior, to the original OE product. The firm claims this is because it re-engineers the OE product to fix any faults in the original design which do not present a problem until they are in use. Spokesman Michael Flensborg states: "With a 'repaired' product, one fault is found and it is that one fault which is then repaired. With 're-conditioned', the unit is broken into sub-assemblies which are then tested, the highlighted faults repaired and then rebuilt. This will not identify any underlying faults." As part of Remy's reman process, the unit is 100% stripped into individual components, cleaned, inspected against OE standards, remanufactured then re-assembled. All wearing components are replaced and the units are tested in static and dynamic conditions.
- Points mean fun days out for workshops
A fun new loyalty scheme from component remanufacturer ACtronics rewards customers with points every time they order parts which can be swapped for team-building activities. 'Purple points for parts' is a pilot scheme which will run for nine months and has been created to thank customers for their continued support. If it proves a hit with garages, it will be rolled out to the Netherlands and Germany. Garages will be rewarded with ten Purple Points for each remanufactured part ordered and these can be redeemed against free activities which include go-karting, clay pigeon shooting or at Go Ape high-wire adventure parks. To give you an idea of how quickly the points can accumulate, 12 minutes of karting will cost 25 points. You can register for this by ticking the relevant box on the online order form. When enough points are collected, you let ACtronics know which activity you want to do and where and they'll book you in, you can pay to add on extra staff members if you like too.
- Range shake up
A range shake-up at Sovereign Rotating Machines has doubled its vehicle coverage for rotating electrics, coils, pulleys and ignition leads. The rotating electrics range has grown by over 700 new part numbers, the total number now stands at over 5,000. The firm has also added 136 new coils, 14 new leads and a number of pulleys. The new references are detailed on MAM's Autocat+ cataloguing tool.
- Testing times
Elstock, part of Borg Automotive, remanufactures brake calipers for 95% of the European car parc and can also provide more exotic items that can prove hard to source. The parts are remanufactured at its plant in Poland where it stores one of the largest core collections. The firm also produces reman starters & alternators, aircon compressors, steering racks and power steering pumps, electronic steering columns, calipers and EGR valves. Units are stripped, every part is thoroughly cleaned and sandblasted. The parts are then scrutinised to see if they can be remanufactured or need replacing. The rubber parts are always replaced with OE or equivalent items. The parts are then individually remanufactured then subjected to testing before being assembled back into a complete unit which is tested further. Each unit comes with an unlimited mileage two-year warranty and matching OE guarantee. The company can provide brake calipers painted back to the original colouring.

- New starters
A total of 44 new to range starters and alternators join Remy's programme of rotating electrics. The total number of parts now stands at well over 4,000 and covers more than 35,000 applications. New starters cover the Vauxhall Astra J and Corsa D as well as the Mercedes CLS, E Class, M Class and S Class. Alternators cater for the Renault Laguna, Hyundai i20, Citroen Nemo and Mitsubishi Pajero IV.
