Coronavirus assessed by suppliers: ECP keeps doors open; others temporarily closing

Published:  25 March, 2020

Aftermarket suppliers are continuing to look at the Coronavirus outbreak, and decide how best to support their customers while balancing responsibility for staff. Some are opting to remain open, while others are looking to temporarily close their doors.

Autoparts & Midwest Motor Factors announced yesterday (Tuesday 24 March) that they would temporarily lock until at least Monday 13 April, or until government restriction are lifted.

“We understand that this is a concerning time for everyone,” said, Craig McCracken Group Factor Manager, Autparts UK, “and as we enter into this unchartered territory, we want to ensure that our suppliers are provided with as much information as possible and that any questions you may have are answered.”

Meanwhile, also yesterday, Euro Car Parts wrote to customers assuring them that they would be remaining open: “I can confirm,” said ECP CEO Andy Hamilton, “that our branches remain open and our deliveries will continue – to support you.

“Given the critical support they provide to keep key workers moving, garages are exempt from the business closure order. They need to be open for NHS staff, teachers, care workers, delivery drivers and all the other key workers that we’re relying on in this crisis.  Without the supply of parts, these garages can’t keep these key workers on the road. Euro Car Parts also supplies the emergency services and the Royal Mail, keeping their vehicles operational, and all the national roadside recovery services. We will continue to supply them with what they need too.”

He added: “We’re working closely with our suppliers to ensure we can maintain good availability across all our products and branch network. To date, we haven’t experienced any issues with stock availability because of the outbreak and are well-prepared to mitigate against any potential impact.”
