Media studies: UFI Filters making masks

Published:  24 June, 2020

UFI Filters is using its new filter media for making masks and PPE to help in the fight against COVID-19 in the aftermarket and beyond.

The company’s non-woven meltblown fabric is being used in the production of both surgical masks and FFP2 masks, the ‘UFI Mask Defender’, which qualify as PPE.

Production will be coordinated from the UFI Filters plant in Marcaria, and will be partly designated for direct sales to supply other companies in the sector, and partly for the productionof UFI-branded surgical masks, in various industrial sites of the UFI Filters Group worldwide. The total capacity for this type of product is 10 million masks per year.

UFI Filters, also has six industrial sites in China, and the company is looking to place 12 million FFP2-type masks per year on the market there. These will come directly from the UFI Filters Shanghai industrial site, thanks to a dedicated automated line.

The masks manufactured by UFI Filters will be on sale from July through the aftermarket network, as well as through the network specialising in PPE. Meltblown material is also  being distributed, in order to supply other manufacturers of masks and to meet the significant demand during this period.

Giorgio Girondi, Chairman of the UFI Filters Group, commented "We are proud to be able to make a contribution during this historic time. The effects of the COVID-19 emergency are being felt across the entire world, and the crisis is placing a major strain on stocks of medical material sand devices.”

He added: “With its expertise, UFI Filters is able to play a key role in meeting the enormous demand for certified high-quality products.”
