IGA donates £20,000 to Ben

Ben has received a £20,000 funding boost from the IGA, following the charity’s urgent appeal for more support in the wake of COVID-19.

On 18 November, via an open letter to automotive industry leaders, Ben’s Chief Executive Zara Ross and Chair of the Board Steve Nash highlighted the problem; A widening gap between a 50% increase in demand for services and a £1m funding shortfall, following the cancellation of fundraising events including the Ben Ball.

On behalf of its members, the IGA has stepped up to respond via the donation. IGA Chief Executive Stuart James commented: “It has been a very difficult year for independent garages, and Ben has provided outstanding support to more people within our industry than ever before, while facing fewer fundraising opportunities throughout the ongoing pandemic.   “With the IGA having to cancel a large number of events this year we have decided to donate the resulting surplus to Ben as thank you from the members of the association.”

Stuart added: “We urge other organisations to donate so Ben can continue to offer the free, life-changing support for anyone in our industry during these difficult times.”   Ben offer support for life for anyone who works, or has worked, in the automotive sector.
