With a Free Trade Agreement between Turkey and the UK having been in place since December 2020, 21 leading Turkish automotive aftermarket manufacturers will be looking to meet UK companies via zoom meetings between 18 -22 October.

The coordinating organization of the Turkish automotive industry, Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters' Association (OIB), is targeting both existing and new customers with the goal of reviving exports, which slowed down during the pandemic, with the support of the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) and the Ministry of Trade.

OIB Chairman Baran Çelik commented “Turkey is a big hub for automotive production. With a production capacity of two million units and vehicle production capacity of 1.3 million units, Turkey is the 14th biggest motor vehicle manufacturer of the world andfourth biggest manufacturer in Europe.

“The UK is one of our biggest markets. Turkish automotive exports to the UK had reached $3 billion in 2018. In 2019, it was $2.5 billion. In our exports to the UK, passenger cars and commercial vehicles stood out. Moreover, the exports of our supply industry to the UK is above $600 million and Turkey ranked 16th in the total imports of the UK. This accounts for 1.8% of the UK's imports.

Baran added: “Under the programme, parties also will exchange ideas about Brexit, which is considered as the most important factor to affect the bilateral trade between the UK and Turkey.”
