SMMT names new President
Mick Flanagan, Vice President for Volvo, JLR, Toyota, Nissan at Adient, was Announced as the 83rd President of the SMMT at the bod’s 106th Annual Dinner on Tuesday (28 November)
Mick has worked in the industry for 37 years and is currently responsible for Adient business with JLR, Volvo, Toyota and Nissan.

Mick said, “I am honoured to accept the appointment as President of the SMMT. As we drive forward, adapting our industry to deliver the exciting new realities of a zero emission vehicle world, and at the same time overcome macroeconomic headwinds, it is crucial that we have a strong trade body to represent, influence and lead all strands of UK Automotive. I look forward to supporting the SMMT team to do just that, and also want to congratulate Alison Jones on her successful tenure as President and thank her for her strong support.”

SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes added: “We are delighted to welcome Mick Flanagan as the 83rd SMMT President. His wealth of industry experience with vehicle manufacturers and, in particular, global supply chain companies will be a huge asset as both undergo transformation on the road to net zero.
Kwik Fit joins IAAF
Kwik Fit has joined the IAAF. According to Kwik Fit Head of Development (Service, Maintenance and Repair) Ben Boot, the company intends to taka proactive role within the Federation on lobbying and campaign issues, including around the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Order (MV-BEO), access to repair and maintenance information (RMI) and MOT testing.
Aftermarket among winners at Self-driving Industry Awards
Aftermarket’s Editor Alex Wells was among those recognised at the the inaugural Self-driving Industry Awards, held at the Turner Contemporary in Margate on 17 November, where the the headline Vehicle of the Year prize went to Project CAVForth, a fleet of five single-decker, low-emission Stagecoach buses which have been running in Scotland daily since May.
